I recently was invited to be a guest speaker at a university to third year students of Bcom degree. The question at the start was, "How many of you want to become asset managers or fund managers when you finish your studies?"
The answer: 90% of the room raised their hands.
The talk went on for 45 minutes. Some intelligent questions were asked and answered. By the end of the talk the students were very motivated and quite excited. The final question for them was this.
"How many of you have ever bought a share?"
The answer: only 5 students out of an entire auditorium full of 3rd year BCom Investment managers-to-be raised their hands.
Do you really expect a broker to look after your money for you? The only person that cares enough about your money is you! Only you should make the investment decisions that surround your money! By getting the right knowledge to do so you can outperform most brokers and achieve financial independence over time.
Money isn't important either. It's the way you manage the money you have got at your disposal that is vital when it comes to investing. The stock market has certain rules for playing the game. Learn them and you can do well. If you don't have the time... then perhaps the stock market isn't for you. Don't make complaints when the stock market or short term trading has made others a fortune! They took the time to work the stock market by applying their investment insight. You can too!
